It's Our 150th anniversary

This year has been already been a eventful year. With the fifth generation of the Majors family taking over the business on the year we turn 150th out of all years. This has given us the opportunity to look back into our past, finding out more information about the company and uncovering historical photos. You will find most of this information on our ‘About Us’ page, where each of the five generations of Majors who have run the company are given a passage each.

To celebrate this monumental year we are sponsoring local events around Shropshire, including local regattas and horse races. These events have been chosen due their connection with previous generations and our company.

 

We have updated our bags and products with our new branding which included the promenate 150 years circle, seen above. These new products include our 150th Majors Umbrella which we plan to give out to our local customer. All of our new branding has been designed by W Douglas Major, the fifth generation of Majors.

 

As the year goes on we will continue to scream and shout about this Major milestone, pun intended! Realistically the celebrations will continue for the next 10 years.

Our History

Established in 1874, Majors is the oldest retailer in Shrewsbury, become part of the fabric of Shropshire with its existence spanning 150 years, two World Wars and six monarchs. Majors has remained in a direct family line for five generations. Starting as a hat shop, to a tailors making officer’s uniforms during the wars.
